Six Hundred Years of the Forbidden City: Commemorative Edition

The Forbidden City’s magnificent palaces have shone brilliantly for 600 years, weathering countless storms. The interplay between its architecture, collections, people, and other elements has shaped its 600-year history. Following a chronological thread, this book carefully traces more than 600 years of Ming and Qing history, covering four periods: the Forbidden City under the Ming, under the Qing, during the Republic of China, and in the People’s Republic of China. From the 18th year of the Yongle reign in the Ming dynasty (1420) to 2020, it brings the Forbidden City’s changing fortunes across six centuries back to life.
