Emperor Yan Shennong: From Shanxi to the World

The Yan Emperor and the Yellow Emperor are the two most important ancestors of the Chinese people, and the Yan Emperor was undoubtedly from Shanxi. This book comprehensively examines the relationship between Shennong, the Yan Emperor, and the Yellow Emperor. It argues that Jiangshui, where the Yan Emperor grew up, is the modern-day Jiang River in Tunliu County, Shanxi; that the Yan Emperor’s eastern campaign ended in defeat at the hands of Chiyou in southern Shanxi and northwestern Henan; and that the Yan Emperor’s descendants migrated in every direction, forming the Five Great Mountains of later generations. It also explores Shennong and the Yan Emperor’s influence on all aspects of Chinese culture, as well as the history of their culture’s spread from China’s southeastern coast to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and beyond.
