The protagonist, Lin Chen, is a police academy dropout who finds himself trapped after accidentally getting involved with a gang. During a dangerous operation, he unexpectedly acquires a mysterious System called the Eye of Truth, granting him extraordinary powers of deduction and observation. He uses it to crack a series of complex cases, earning the police force’s trust once more. His relationship with his cool, beautiful superior, Zhou Wei, gradually shifts from mutual opposition to close cooperation and budding affection. While investigating a serial killer, Lin Chen discovers that the murderer is not only an old acquaintance, but also a real-world projection of someone within the System. In the end, Lin Chen brings the serial killer to justice and uncovers the secret behind the System: it is a carefully designed psychological experiment. At the end of the story, Lin Chen resigns from the police force and opens a private detective agency with Zhou Wei. Together, they use the Eye of Truth to protect the innocent and fight even more secretive, cunning criminals.
