The Years of War Are Long

Nie Weizhen was born in 1900 in Tonggubao Town, Jianshi County, Hubei Province (Tonggubao was transferred to Wushan County, Chongqing City in 1952). From a cautious person to a revolutionary, he actively led the students while attending Wuchang Provincial No. 1 Middle School. Students supported the May 4th Movement and the Beijing-Hankow Railway Strike. In 1924, while studying at Chaoyang University in Beijing, Nie Weizhen was introduced to the Communist Party of China by Li Dazhao. He was the first Communist Party member from Western Hubei. Later, Nie Wei returned to western Hubei and used his identity as secretary-general of the KMT's Jianshi County Party Department as a cover to secretly recruit Communist Party members and establish a party organization. He established the Jianshi County Committee of the Communist Party of China, the first county committee organization in western Hubei, and served as secretary of the county committee. During this period, he led the vigorous peasant movement and armed riots, sowing the revolutionary fire in the Sichuan-Hunan-Guizhou border area. In August 1931, Nie Weizhen, his cousin Nie Weiyao, and Huang Xingwu, the former secretary of the Xianfeng County Party Committee, went to Weihai, Shandong Province to perform tasks under organizational arrangements. They were killed by the enemy on the way and died heroically. In March 2010, Nie Weizhen was posthumously recognized as a revolutionary martyr by the Hubei Provincial People's Government.
