Weihai Three Thousand Years

Weihai has a long history and profound cultural heritage. As early as the Neolithic Age, primitive ancestors were living here. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Laizi established the city that never sleeps and started the earliest city culture in the territory. During the Qin and Han Dynasties, the first emperor Wenshan summoned scholars and Zheng Xuan visited Donglai to farm, and the trend of advocating literature and learning emerged in the territory. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Chishanpo and Rushanpo were important ports for maritime trade between China, Japan and Silla, and foreign cultural exchanges flourished. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Weihaiwei was established, the Beiyang Navy was formed, and the territory became an important coastal defense town. In the disgrace of Sino-Japanese War of 1891-1899, the British leased Weihai.
