Stand-In (Work by Yukito Ayatsuji)

This is the first Japanese novel I have read, and it is also the first novel I have read completely. I watched the animation first and then the novel. The animation was okay, and the novel is better, more complete, clearer, and has a better rhythm. I highly recommend anime fans to read the original novel.

It is a wonderful mystery novel. In fact, I have been thinking about the meaning of the title "Stand-in" before reading it. Now I feel that many things are actually stand-ins. Mizaki Ming is the stand-in for Wu Guo's daughter, Jiuguanniao Xiaorei is the stand-in for Reiko's aunt, Reiko's aunt is the stand-in for her mother, and Naru and Tsuneichi are stand-ins for non-existent people... Stand-ins are the expression of human nature, containing the connotation between good and evil. Flowers have two sides, human nature is between Buddha and demon. Everyone has a distinct personality, some are motivated by their own selfish interests, while others rise to the occasion and are not afraid of challenges. This group of fifteen-year-old boys used their courage to write an extraordinary chapter of youth.

It's a very good book, I think it's much better than the original one... The special identity of the deceased always reminds me of the marsh man... The state of "wanting to die but not being able to die" is the ultimate hell for delusional people - they cannot even confirm that the end belongs to them, because even "death" may be included in their fantasies as another plot.
