By interpreting the latest materials such as the representative epitaphs and inscriptions of the Five Dynasties' literati, warriors, monks, and civilians, this book explores the social mobility and civil and military exchanges of various people, and finds that favor, marriage, and family background are still important conditions for social mobility in the Five Dynasties. Although the class mobility in the Five Dynasties was relatively lively, it was limited, and senior and powerful positions were still in the hands of a few families. It was not only the emperors or literati who made the early Song Dynasty tilt toward civil rule, but also the self-transformation of the entire Five Dynasties martial arts group or the pursuit of traditional martial arts. From the dominance of military men to the dominance of literati through the integration of civil and military forces, the Song Dynasty completed the transformation of governance and became a new generation dominated by literati. The manuscript provides important clues and perspectives for us to observe the position of the Five Dynasties in the development of Chinese history.
