(Childhood sweethearts + married first, fall in love later + past and present lives + sweet romance + short story)
With her mother gravely ill, Tong Zijin has to pretend to be a loving couple with Huo Sang.
Tong Zijin has never understood why Huo Sang always does whatever she asks.
Could it be because he likes her?
But he clearly has no worldly desires. Even sharing a bed with her, he can remain perfectly composed.
Could it be because he’s afraid of her?
She did beat him up once when they were six, but surely he can’t still hold a grudge over that...
Huo Sang is becoming more and more of a mystery, and Tong Zijin can’t help wanting to figure him out.
He plays the role of her husband with such care, and seems to enjoy it, too.
He indulges her when she’s feeling lazy, rescues her when she embarrasses herself, and stands up for her when she’s bullied...
Then a cute junior appears by Huo Sang’s side. Tong Zijin is inexplicably consumed by jealousy, and only then realizes she has fallen for him...
One day, emboldened by alcohol, Tong Zijin bites Huo Sang hard.
“If you don’t like me, why are you so good to me? Why did you make me fall for you?”
Ignoring the blood on his lower lip, Huo Sang wipes the tears from the corner of Tong Zijin’s eye.
“Have you forgotten what I said the first time I saw you?”
Tong Zijin shakes her head, eyes brimming with tears. They’ve known each other for seventeen years. Who could remember that far back?
Huo Sang leans close to her ear and softly says it again.
After hearing him, Tong Zijin breaks into a smile through her tears. “I only remember beating you up back then...”
Huo Sang takes Tong Zijin’s hand and urges her to keep hitting him.
“Go ahead. I owe you this!”
