A Complete History of Tuyuhun

[Synopsis]

At the end of the Western Jin dynasty, Tuyuhun, leader of the Murong tribe of the Xianbei in Liaodong, led several thousand people westward. Along the way, he conquered what are now Qinghai, southern Gansu, and western Sichuan, as well as the Di tribes, and established the Tuyuhun Kingdom. The Central Plains then fell into more than a century of warfare among the Sixteen Kingdoms. The young prince Shihe inherited his ancestors' great undertaking, settling internal strife and repelling powerful enemies beyond the borders. He worked tirelessly to strengthen the nation, and never forgot to uphold the unity of the motherland, declaring that he would "pay distant court to the Son of Heaven" and fulfill his "duty as a distant vassal." In their frontier lands, they created their own glory and made a unique contribution to Chinese history.
