Introduction
This book is themed to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. Among the more than 500 New Fourth Army interviewees interviewed by the National Social Science Fund's major project "Rescue and Compilation of Oral History Materials of Anti-Japanese Veterans" in the past five years, the oral histories of 75 veterans were selected. The veterans of the New Fourth Army come from the seven divisions and local units of the New Fourth Army. They include combat personnel, art troops, health troops, communications troops, orderlies, political workers, accountants, etc. There are also many female soldiers. The vast majority of them (nearly 60 veterans) live in Jiangsu. Although most of the veterans of the New Fourth Army included in this book were ordinary soldiers during the Anti-Japanese War, their experiences are very rich and the content is vivid. They truly record the turbulent years when the New Fourth Army was not afraid of difficulties, persisted in the war of resistance, continued to grow, and moved towards victory.
