China Through Porcelain: A History of Geopolitical Culture

Since its invention, porcelain has held an important place in Chinese life, gradually becoming a distinctive cultural symbol. How should we understand the relationship between porcelain and China, and what has porcelain's history in China been like? This book reconstructs history through the history of porcelain, and uses history to reinterpret the history of porcelain. It is divided into five parts: “Porcelain and the Nation,” “The Steps of Childhood,” “Prelude to Prosperity,” “The Age of the Pinnacle,” and “From the Commonplace Onward.” The first part focuses on the relationship between porcelain and Chinese history and culture. The remaining four parts follow a chronological order, introducing the defining features of porcelain techniques and culture at each stage.
