We Met in the Mortal World Between Heaven and Hell

This novel tells the tragic and beautiful love story of two young people deeply in love. They stumble along life's road, searching for each other. As society is torn apart by one era of upheaval and transformation after another, they lose themselves, only to gradually find redemption in the end...

The story devotes considerable space to the local customs and culture of the Lijiang region. Its prose is as poetic and picturesque as a painting, while the tightly woven plot rises and falls dramatically, elevating the lives and love of its protagonists to a higher plane.

(This is the best novel yet about Lijiang's folk culture. Its incisive prose cuts through the page. Well worth reading at leisure., Reader review)
