Appendix to the Liaohai Series

The ideas and traditions of Chinese culture have a long history and are distinguished by their originality, innovation, and literary richness. Early schools of thought had distinctive characteristics, encompassing religious theology, Chinese medicine classics, ancient military strategy, Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, the Hundred Schools of Thought, feng shui and metaphysics, the Twenty-Four Histories, customs, and local gazetteers, among many other profound subjects. This series, “Treasures of Classic Chinese Learning,” preserves the original appearance of these works, with an emphasis on safeguarding and sharing traditional Chinese thought and culture. By reading the literary treasures left by the sages of antiquity, readers can cultivate their temperament and absorb the classics of Chinese learning over time.
