Though the Sun Has Set in the East

During the War of Resistance, Tang Yue, a German-trained phantom sniper and gunsmith, fights in the Battle of Shanghai and the Defense of Nanjing before spending ten years on Shanghai's covert front as a member of the Military Statistics Bureau. The protagonist, Tang Yue, is the young master Naqin, half Mongolian by blood. His ten years in the Bureau encompass both the courage and sacrifice of the resistance against Japan and the disillusionment of faith and love during the conflict between the two parties. A firearms expert, Tang Yue is seriously wounded and leaves the front line. He is then ordered to infiltrate Wang Jingwei's puppet government's 76th Division and establish supply routes through East China and Lingnan. While helping the Bureau handle Japanese biological weapons, he mistakes its agent Shu Wanyu for Sheng Wanzhen, the woman who once saved his life. Sheng Wanzhen is Shu Wanyu's twin sister. Tang Yue is emotionally compromised and maliciously betrayed. After clearing his name, Tang Yue returns to Shanghai and unexpectedly reunites with Sheng Wanzhen, now an intelligence operative for the Chinese Communist Party. From suspicion and sniper attacks to reconciliation and, ultimately, stepping aside for her sake, Tang Yue and Sheng Wanzhen each hold fast to their principles and feelings amid the smoke and fire of war, without betraying their beliefs.
