Rekindled romance. A brooding, volatile top × a beautiful, seductive bottom.
As the Seventh Prince, Duan Zhangyi has known nothing but misfortune. His mother, born into a military family, grew jealous of the emperor's favor toward the Consort and tried to poison her. The plot failed, and she was sentenced to die by poison. His father and brothers were implicated as well. In recognition of the Gu family's great service to the Zhu Dynasty, the emperor allowed them to avoid further punishment by ordering them to guard the northwest, never to return to the capital. One day, Duan Zhangyi discovers a letter hidden in a secret compartment in his mother's bedchamber. A secret sealed away for years is about to come to light.
Duan Zhangyi begins secretly building up his own power. But during a mission to gather intelligence, his cover is blown and he is gravely wounded. With pursuers closing in and his strength failing, he shuts his eyes in despair. Through his blurred vision, he sees a young man standing before him with a blade in hand. The man glances back at him, and Duan Zhangyi collapses unconscious. When he wakes, he finds himself in a secluded estate, with a child about his age, as adorable as a porcelain doll, sitting beside him.
Years later, the emperor decrees that the Seventh Prince, Prince Yi, must marry Xi Songqing, the illegitimate son of the Marquis of Jingyuan. The entire court is in an uproar. Duan Zhangyi considers killing him, but changes his mind after meeting the young man in person. After their wedding, Duan Zhangyi gradually lowers his guard around the strikingly handsome young man. But when the tender illusion shatters, he discovers that his former lover's affection was all a means of using him. Duan Zhangyi is utterly disillusioned. Yet when he hears that Xi Songqing is being hunted, his mood darkens further. He breaks completely with the Crown Prince and brings the badly wounded Xi Songqing back to the estate.
“Xi Songqing, if you dare run again, I'll make everyone you care about wish they were dead.”
“Then stay with me for a while, will you?”
Duan Zhangyi turns and leaves.
