This book was written by Llosa in Salia, Barcelona, from 1973 to 1974. He also completed the film script of this book. The story is based on a real event. The author made a serious criticism of a major social and political issue (corruption of military authorities) through a non-serious story. On the surface, he quoted a large number of documents (including request reports, official correspondence, notices, radio comments, news reports, etc.) In a serious manner to report on the work. In fact, he quietly exposed and ridiculed the bad phenomenon incisively and vividly.
After the book was published, it was once banned by Peruvian officials, but it gained widespread public attention.
Reader comments
The plot of this book is so interesting. It looks serious on the surface, but is actually full of satire on the corruption of military authorities. I particularly like the character of Captain Pandaleon, his actions make people laugh, but they also reflect some real-life issues. Llosa's writing style is very unique, which made me feel very happy while reading. This book opened my eyes to play and humor in literature. What a great book!
