Loans and Credit Guarantees for Chinese Farmers (1930-2010)

This book carries out research from three aspects. The first is to study the structure and changes of farmers' borrowing needs, the second is to explore the channels for farmers to borrow and their changes, and the third is to analyze the development changes of the rural credit guarantee system and its constraints on farmers' borrowing, with a view to providing policy ideas for solving the problem of farmers' difficulties in obtaining loans from formal financial institutions. In order to carry out the research, the author used a large amount of data from the "Wuxi Baoding Rural Survey", a unique long-term continuous follow-up survey of the economic conditions of farmers in the same area in the history of modern rural surveys in China, supplemented by rural financial archives from the People's Bank of China and other departments from 1949 to 1966, as well as official statistics and research results of other scholars.
