As a homegrown Guizhou liquor brand, Xijiu has followed an unusually independent path throughout its history, making it a unique case in the baijiu industry. It weathered the industry's dramatic ups and downs and, after falling into a slump, was acquired by the Moutai Group. Yet Xijiu was not swallowed up by the larger group. Instead, it seized the opportunity to make a comeback and establish itself as an independent brand. This book gathers the oral histories of twenty people connected to Xijiu: Zhong Fangda, the current chairman of the Xijiu Group; Chen Yingrong; Zeng Fanjun; Lü Xiangfen; Luo Huaiji; Lü Liangke; Yu Lin'an; Yi Shunzhang; Liao Xiangpei; Lü Xiangcai; Yang Cuilan; Yongsheng Village; Ji Keliang; Lü Liangwei; Liu Qingying; the Communist Youth League Provincial Committee; Pan Chen; Hou Shi'an; Kong Lei; and Gao Wenjuan. Through their accounts, readers can hear the history of Xijiu and gain insight into its culture, while exploring the transformation of the baijiu industry and advocating the creation of a new kind of baijiu culture.
