The Splendor of the Tang Dynasty

The late Sui dynasty: The land is in turmoil, the winds of change are rising, and heroes contend for supremacy.

A Li was abandoned by her family at birth.

With an incurable chill in her body, she has spent her life barely clinging to the edge between life and death.

So, that year, beneath Zhongnan Mountain,

when the young man asked her, “What do you wish for?”

she answered frankly, “My greatest wish is to live a long, long life.”

He remembered her words.

Years later,

in Chang’an, old friends reunite, but everything has changed.

They now bear very different identities.

She despises him. He is heartless, cold, and hypocritical, and he destroyed her family. She wants nothing more than to get away from him, preferably to become strangers forever and never see each other again.

He despises her, too. She is fickle and false, eating his food while smashing his pot. He is determined to find a way to make her fend for herself and suffer the consequences.

When her true identity is revealed, he regrets everything. If he gives up everything he has, can he win her back?

And can she, with death drawing near, bear this confession that has come too late?

When the truth of their feelings comes to light, they cannot return to what they once were. Must they simply wish each other well and go their separate ways?

Or can they find a way out of despair, face the storms of blood and strife hand in hand, and usher in a glorious age for the Tang dynasty?
