Reborn: The Noble Consort Wants to Seize Power

When Shen Wanru saw this, she knew there was no escaping her fate. She remembered how she had once been a university student who graduated with a degree in modern Chinese literature, only to arrive in this unfamiliar dynasty and become the daughter of the Grand General Who Defends the Nation. When she had first arrived, she had been full of ambition. A few poems had made her famous throughout the capital, and modern business methods had made her rich. Everyone had fawned over her. Then she met Li Chen, the Second Prince whose maternal family had fallen into decline, and resolutely decided to marry him, helping him rise from obscurity to where he was now. She had poured in untold effort and weathered countless schemes and false alarms to get this far. Yet she had never expected that, once the hare was dead, the hounds would be cooked. Only at the very end of her life did she finally understand. She deserved this fate; she had brought it upon herself. But her family should not have been dragged into it, nor should the ill-fated girls she had once saved, who had gone into business with her. Without her, what future could they have in this evil feudal society that exploited women to the extreme? She had lost the struggle and could no longer speak up for them. With that thought, Shen Wanru drank the poison and ended her life.
