A Good Horse Never Returns to Old Pastures, and a Good Woman Never Marries a Good-for-Nothing

Wen Yujing had been a new bride for six months. In a daze, she found herself thinking back to the day when gongs and drums filled the air as she was welcomed into the family.

“I won’t be home for dinner today. Get up early and go pay your respects to Mother.”

A hint of displeasure flashed in Gu Jingcheng’s eyes, but he quickly hid it.

Ronger, who had been waiting outside, brought in an exquisite porcelain basin and helped her wash up.

“Madam, the kitchen made your favorite Dongpo pork today.”

Wen Yujing brightened. “Is it that day already?”

Wen Yujing had a little weakness for food. Most young ladies and married women loved pastries or fine tea, but she was different. She liked rich, greasy dishes. Afraid of gaining weight, though, she didn’t dare eat much, so she only indulged every few days, on a day she’d specially set aside for it.

Ronger smiled as she helped her mistress change. “Mama Li…”
