"Jade Toad" is a vernacular heroic legend novel written by Cui Xiangchuan in the Qing Dynasty. It is also known as "Twelve Fate to Jade Toad", "Twelve Beauties to Fate to Yu Toad", "Twelve Destiny Commentary", "Jade Toad Fate" and "Jade Toad Romance". It has six volumes and 53 chapters. It was written before the seventh year of Daoguang reign in the Qing Dynasty (1827). It tells the story of Zhang Kun and twelve beauties who eradicated evil and eventually got married. The background of the story is twenty years after Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty, the treacherous prime minister Yan Song disrupted the government, and the loyal ministers and good generals sacrificed their lives to defend the country. The structure of the book is rigorous and elegant, the sentences are approachable, and it contains the profound meaning of retribution and awakening the world. It is indeed an intriguing classic novel.
