"Liang Shu" records the history of the fifty-six years from the founding of the Liang Dynasty by Emperor Wu Xiao Yan to the fall of Liang Jing Emperor Xiao Fangzhi. It was written diligently by two generations, Yao Cha and his son Yao Silian. Although Yao Cha and Yao Silian were historians, they both had profound literary literacy. In terms of historical writing, their writing was concise and plain, and they avoided the pursuit of gorgeous and exaggerated rhetoric. They inherited the writing style and brushwork of Sima Qian and Ban Gu, which are rare among the histories of the Southern Dynasties.
