He Yuzhu's Life Swap

He Yuzhu has lived his whole life in the old Dao Kou courtyard compound, and lately he’s come down with a strange ailment: headaches!

He went to the hospital for tests, but they couldn’t find anything wrong.

The doctor told him to eat better, saying his blood sugar might be low.

But the shaman woman in Wudaokou said his yin and yang were out of balance, and that he’d recover as soon as he had a wife at home.

The strange illness brings him one bizarre dream after another, each one seeming both real and unreal.

In the world of Rickshaw Boy, he is Xiangzi, whose wife has just died and who has caught a venereal disease;

In the world of The White Deer Plain, he is Bai Xiaowen, lying on Tian Xiao’e’s kang and smoking opium;

In the world of The True Story of Ah Q, he is Ah Q, who drives Wu Ma to hang herself;

In the world of To Live, he is Fugui, who gambles away every last bit of his family fortune;

These absurd, outlandish dreams also send his life veering off its original course.
