The Rise and Fall of the Woniu Family

Woniubi is a training company that mainly offers courses to college students. Thanks to its outstanding marketing, the business grew rapidly and flourished. But as the company expanded at breakneck speed and pushed ahead with plans to go public, the crises lurking beneath the surface gradually began to emerge...

Adapted from an experience in the author's life, the story traces the rise and fall of Woniubi Training. It vividly and incisively portrays the hidden forces at work behind the scenes, the causes of success and failure, and the intrigue, virtue and vice, beauty and ugliness of the workplace.

An unconventional workplace novel, it is starkly realistic in the first half and sharp and satisfying in the second. Though not especially long, it is tightly plotted and full of twists and turns, combining rational analysis with heartfelt commentary. Its characters are complex and its conflicts intense; the writing is biting, humorous, and thought-provoking, with a positive outlook. A rare gem.

“Woniubi” is a play on “wo niubi,” meaning “I’m awesome,” and is meant ironically.
