I Think I’m in Love with a Tree

Zuo Qiu Shi seemed to spend her whole life chasing people who didn’t love her, whether friends or lovers. She called this seemingly endless, unanswered pursuit “emotional heroism.” It was her fate to be the heroine who saved everyone. Whenever she was hurt or failed, she would gently wipe the dust from her face and wait for dawn before continuing along the stream. Sometimes she grew tired of it, but the hopes in her heart always returned, relentlessly covering up the pain of the past, as if none of it were a big deal.

That was, until she met Xu Huai.

At first, she thought he was just a playboy. Then, after he confessed his feelings, she decided he seemed like a foolish young man. She simply refused to confirm that his feelings were genuine, refused to believe anyone could admire her… Somehow, when true love finally came, she treated it as yet another test life had set for her.

If the sky is darkest before dawn, does that mean love is most sincere after enduring the harshest trials?

At eighteen, she did not understand how love was different. She thought she could carve a likeness of it with every sharp-edged object she could find. But the heart is no hard stone, and nothing wounds it more than the silver blade of someone you love.
