What I Saw and Heard When Guo Songling Rebelled Against the Fengtian Clique

The book Guo Songling’s Rebellion Against the Fengtian Clique: An Eyewitness Account is based on an important manuscript that the author happened upon at a secondhand bookstall. After careful research, it proved to be an exceptionally precious historical memoir that had never been published. These first-hand accounts were written by 18 people who were directly involved. Their positions included commander-in-chief, brigade commander, regiment commander, company commander, chief secretary, head of military justice, major general and director of education, colonel and operations chief, military headquarters secretary, deputy liaison officer at military headquarters, clerk in the provincial governor’s office, and chief medical officer. They witnessed or heard the events firsthand, took part in them, or were close at hand. The accounts cover the reasons for Guo Songling’s rebellion against the Fengtian clique, the course of the war, and the reasons for its failure, as well as some of the activities of Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang. The material is authentic, and its vivid details make the events and people seem right before the reader’s eyes.
