Look into My Eyes, and Forget Me

[If there is a star in the vast night sky that shines forever, then it must carry a wish, a wish meant only for you. If a shooting star streaks across the sky, I will make a dream come true, a dream that has everything to do with you.] That night, the two of us sat on the rooftop. “Have you ever seen a shooting star?” He raised his hand and traced an arc through the air, then paused at the brightest star in the night sky. It was the path of a shooting star as he imagined it. “The books say that when people die, they become stars in the sky.” I looked up in the direction he was pointing, toward that star, and said nothing. “I heard that everyone sees different stars. Which one do you see?” He lowered his hand and turned to look at me. I raised my hand and pointed to the same star. He looked at it and smiled happily. “I heard you can make wishes on stars.” He closed his eyes and began to make a wish. I watched his profile and silently made a wish in my heart, a wish about him.
