The pairings are roughly as follows:

The story begins when the four protagonists first meet as children. At that time, Madam Lan, Madam Ling, and the Palace Master of the Jue Palace are all still alive. In this story, Gong Yuanzheng lost his parents at an even younger age. The story will gradually move toward the timeline at the beginning of My Journey to You, and some of the original plot may be changed.
The characters will generally stay true to their original portrayals, with some extensions based on my own interpretation, to make them as rounded as possible. For example, what might Gong Yuanzheng's views on love be like? How might Gong Shangjue's personality have differed in his youth? What other charms does Gong Ziyu have beyond his kindness and his boundless love?
