Her New Neighbor Is Rather Gentle

[The childhood friend is not the male lead; there is an endgame couple] [No groveling-to-win-her-back arc]

No one knew Wen Yao had a secret: in her sophomore year of high school, she dreamed that the childhood friend she'd always loved fell for a transfer student named Tao Ru. He pursued her from high school through college, and they finally got together in their sophomore year. Meanwhile, Wen Yao stayed by Gu Minnan's side, watching them fall in love step by step, unable to escape the pain of unrequited love. In the end, she spent her days in misery because she couldn't have him, and after seeing Gu Minnan's grand proposal video, she died without ever finding peace. Her family was devastated by her passing.

The painful lesson of that dream led Wen Yao to decide to give up the boy she'd loved since childhood and gradually distance herself from his life. As she took stock of the seventeen years she'd lived, she slowly realized that life without her childhood friend wasn't so hard after all. Just as she was adjusting to a new social circle, new neighbors moved into the long-empty house next door. Their visit introduced her to an outstanding, gentle young man. After spending time together again and again, and weathering a few unexpected turns, they finally became a couple. In the end, the girl found the gentle boy meant for her.
