The Mountains in Full Spring

A collection of stories about lovesick men and women in the mortal world.

Jian Yi broke up with his girlfriend, whose career was soaring. A group of his childhood friends invited him out for drinks. They said it had been ages since they’d gotten together, but everyone knew they were really there to comfort their heartbroken buddy. Jian Yi didn’t think he felt bad at all, but his friends made a huge fuss. Once they’d eaten and drunk their fill and the mood was right, someone insisted on setting him up with someone new. They went back and forth, but the new prospects were unknown quantities, and none of his old acquaintances seemed suitable. Then Yin Li pointed at someone across the table who was already drunk. Jian Yi: ???

Yin Li: Don’t look at me. Look at him. His family has someone suitable, and we know them well.

When Li Yanyu was young, among all the excellent men around her, she only had eyes for Jian Yi. Asked what she saw in him, she answered, “He’s just like his name: simple and free-spirited.” That left everyone else wondering: Were we all that complicated and burdensome? After that, they looked at the girls in each other’s arms and the little gestures each one was making, then turned away and dropped the subject.

Unfortunately, there were far too many useless teammates around her. She couldn’t count on anyone else, so with every advantage in her favor, Li Yanyu made up her mind: rely on herself and trust fate! She’d give it her best shot. If it didn’t work, she could always start over!

We chase the wind and race the moon for the spring mountains beyond the endless plains. Why fear the vines that catch at us along the way?
