This was probably the hundredth year since nuclear wastewater was first dumped into the sea. In that time, perhaps as punishment for its sins, the volcano that had been dormant for a century erupted violently, bringing the island nation of Neon to the brink of annihilation. Though its near-destruction was a cause for celebration, the eruption triggered an even worse nuclear wastewater leak. A green deluge swept across the globe, and just like that, the apocalypse began. Humanity’s survivors could only struggle to endure in the world left behind by the rain.
Our protagonist, meanwhile, encountered a strange mermaid in the underground city where he had grown up, and gained an unusual System.
