Studies in the History of the Ji State

This book is a collection of papers on the history of the Ji State. The Yi people of the east and the Ji State have a long history and were renowned warriors. From the legendary age through the Xia, Shang, and Western Zhou dynasties, and on into the Spring and Autumn period, they left their mark across the Central Plains. Mr. Wang Xiantang pioneered the study of the history of the Ji State and brought it to its fullest development. Research into the Ji State’s history has given rise to many disagreements and debates. Scholars such as Li Xueqin, Cao Dingyun, Wang Shuming, Wang Yongbo, and Wang Endian have sorted through, verified, and analyzed archaeological materials, bringing the study of Ji history into a new phase. In more than a dozen articles, Li Fengxin builds on and synthesizes their research, examining and analyzing points of controversy and neglected issues in the study of Ji history, and putting forward his own views.
