This book is both Youzhang and not Youzhang. Youzhang began as a fun comic the author drew on a whim during middle and high school. Its name came from a classmate who felt the comic was so packed with assorted content that it seemed chaotic and disorganized. The author took that as a challenge and drew a huge mashup featuring countless characters. It was originally titled Chaotic Yet Ordered, and eventually came to be called Youzhang.
The purpose of this book is not only to commemorate the comic Youzhang, but also to flesh out its world and content, as well as explain the backgrounds and reasons for hostility of certain supporting characters and villains. After all, characters often show up and start fighting for no apparent reason, and leaving those plot threads unresolved would be pretty lame.
The original comic consists of 3,500 illustrations. It is a labor of love and one of the most important vessels of the author's fondest childhood memories.
