The stage of "Snow" is set in Osaka at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s. In the past, the famous Makoka family had four beautiful sisters: the eldest sister Tsuruko was conservative, the second sister Sachiko was harmonious, the third sister Yukiko was introverted, and the younger sister Taeko was unrestrained. The story takes the older, unmarried Yukiko's blind date experiences as the main line, and the ups and downs of Taeko's frustration in studying and her emotional entanglements with rich boys and ordinary youths. On one side is catching fireflies, admiring flowers, singing and dancing, on the other side there are floods, epidemics, hurricanes and wars. The work as a whole is like a slow-flowing river, with light and dark intertwining and dark eddies swirling; in it, the subtleties of human nature are fully revealed, and all kinds of flavors are present.
Reader comments
Tsuruko is a traditional woman who relies on her parents before marriage and her husband after marriage. She is a voluntarily bound bird, willing to take care of her children and live frugally. For her sisters, just out of responsibility, she prefers her own small family and listens to her husband.
Sachiko was born when her family was at its most affluent, her parents doted on her, and her husband and wife loved each other. She had enough love for her sister and family, and she was as happy as her name. Her husband also respects her and loves her, they are equals.
Xuezi, like snowflakes, is pure and easy to melt. She is light and invisible. She is born from the intertwining of the old and the new. She is traditional but has her own opinion. She likes her hometown and the stability, even though there are many things happening here that make her unhappy. After her blind dates failed again and again, she finally succeeded. She will be happy because she is sober.
Taeko, wonderful and terrible, was born in a new era, with new ideas, seemingly independent, but actually dependent. She likes to escape, using one person to escape from another, luxurious but unstable, and likes to end relationships by going abroad, adventurous but irresponsible.
The full text talks about Yukiko and Taeko, but Sachiko takes up a huge amount of space. She is a branch of the family, but she plays the responsibility of the head of the family. She is more responsible than Tsuruko and loves her sisters more. The shadow of war is also reflected here, in economy and life.
The book "Fine Snow" is like a delicate prose poem. The four sisters in the story each have their own characteristics, which reminded me of my own sisters. Yukiko's blind date experience was very real and made me relate to it. The life scenes and delicate emotions described in the book are like a picture scroll unfolding before my eyes. Really recommended!
Very beautiful and delicate
This book is objective and true, with clear structure and distinct layers. It is worth recommending to book lovers.
