A motley crew of oddballs comes together to form their own party. Among them are a good-for-nothing bishop of the Church, a demon’s son hoping to turn over a new leaf, and a middle-aged knight who has been out of work for ages. Beneath their seemingly harmonious companionship, every one of them has their own little schemes.
Meanwhile, the empire that has ruled the world for nearly a thousand years is entering a new age of turmoil:
The emperor is growing old and gradually losing his grip on the vast empire, sinking into unprovoked madness. Yet no heir has been chosen, and the electors are still locked in a fierce struggle over which prince to support.
The previous Son of the Faith betrayed his beliefs for love, creating unprecedented divisions within what had once been a stable Church. With no new Son of the Faith found yet, the ailing pope can only struggle to maintain the Church’s false peace.
As for another group, they have long been accustomed to their freedom. Two hundred years ago, a plot by imperial nobles to assassinate the sixth Archmage was exposed, and the mages won a host of privileges as compensation from the empire. But the top Archmages are growing weaker, and no one is left to lead this arrogant group.
Moreover, other races, led by the dragons, are increasingly dissatisfied with humanity’s leadership. Even with demons from another world invading this one, they have decided to stop honoring the ancient pact.
Let me give myself the first review. Although it seems that the pace of the prologue is a bit poor now, I hope people who read this book can support it more. 🙂
