Synopsis

"Romance" and "geography" seem to be contradictory words. Geography is down to earth, full of common sense, and necessary for survival. In the past, everyone had to know where to find food, water and habitat; now, everyone must carefully manage the earth's home to make it more livable. Today's geographical works lack drama. Maps, data, descriptions and analyzes abound, but there is no heroic deeds or the spirit of diligent pursuit. However, in recent history, geography did have magic and was considered romantic. It was a time of heroic exploration. Explorers go deep into oceans, mountains, forests, caves, deserts and polar ice sheets to test their physical and mental endurance... The author points out that if spirituality is regarded as the core of human existence, perhaps humans need to treat the entire universe as a playground: transcend the golden mean, embrace polarizing values such as light and dark, high and low, brain and brawn, and convert to geographies that do not satisfy survival needs but cater to passionate romantic desires. The book uses a smart writing style to describe the interaction between human nature and the earth from the perspectives of philosophy, psychology, and anthropology, and explores the poetic potential of geography.

This book is not the kind of popular science geography book I thought at first. You will be a little confused when you first read it. What is the polarizing value of a book about geography? ! But it's exactly like this. The more you go on, the more you will slowly understand the author. The author has brought us a different geography from the perspective of history, literature, and culture. Let's briefly talk about it. Chapter 2: The Earth and its Natural Environment mainly talks about how different people feel about these natural landscapes, including forests, deserts, ice, etc. Chapter 3: Breaking away from nature and talking about cities. What impressed me deeply here is that the author mainly talks about light in cities. All in all, this book is worth reading.

This book gave me a whole new understanding of geography! It not only tells geographical knowledge, but also explores the interaction between people and the earth from the perspectives of philosophy, psychology and anthropology. Just like I'm always looking for love, the book also touches on the human pursuit of romance and the sublime. It reminds me of the life experiences of myself and my friends. We are all constantly exploring the world and looking for places that make our hearts beat. This book is really inspiring and I recommend it to everyone!
