I Didn't Give You the Best of Me

Adapted from a true story, this novel reflects on marriage, family, ethics, and morality in contemporary society. Through the perspective and experiences of the protagonist, Song Beichen, it tells how, after a marriage falls apart, the former partners can become so unfamiliar, frightening, and greedy. In the midst of it all, how should they face the people they once loved, the people they love now, their children, and their parents? Years after resorting to lies, deception, and forgery to get what they wanted, will the protagonists feel regret or relief? And when the next generation grows up, how will they view the things their parents did?

As the story unfolds, the author also reflects on what it means to be our best selves, whether we showed that side of ourselves to the right people, and how we can make amends to those we have hurt when we ourselves are broken.
