[Quick-Witted Lady + Scheming Grand Tutor + Marriage Before Love + Court Intrigue]
Shen Yun was jilted. The engagement arranged when she was young was called off because Gu Yuan had fallen in love with someone else. She thought she would have no further ties to the Gu family, but the emperor instead bestowed a marriage between her and Gu Yuan's older brother, Gu Yan. Grand Tutor Gu Yan was gloomy and ruthless. Shen Yun had no desire to marry him, but then she learned that Gu Yan had personally asked the emperor to grant the marriage. Driven by the emperor's own selfish motives, Shen Yun married Gu Yan, who carefully plotted his every move. Gu Yan was determined to protect Shen Yun, yet still allowed her to be drawn into the strife.
“I was never a vine clinging to you. From beginning to end, I have always been able to stand on my own. Gu Yan, do you believe in me?”
“Ajiu, even if I no longer exist in this world, you will still be you...”
