Set in the Northern Song, this book tells the story of “Southern Hero Zhan Zhao,” Ding Yuehua, younger sister of the twin Ding heroes, and the Five Rats of Jiangnan: Lu Fang, Han Zhang, Xu Qing, Jiang Ping, and Bai Yutang. Moved by Bao Zheng’s incorruptible character and his determination to punish wrongdoers, Zhan Zhao willingly follows him. He never expects the emperor to dub him the Imperial Cat, earning him the enmity of the Five Rats of Jiangnan. Among them, the unruly Bai Yutang wants to test himself against Zhan Zhao and heads to Dongjing, the capital. Zhan Zhao’s fiancée, Ding Yuehua, hears the news and sets off after him, but encounters Bai Yutang along the way.
To prevent a conflict with Bai Yutang in Dongjing and resolve the trouble involving Pang Yu in Chenzhou, Zhan Zhao volunteers to go undercover. To keep Grand Preceptor Pang from becoming suspicious, he has no choice but to pretend to oppose Bao Zheng. But his fiancée, Ding Yuehua, is both a skilled martial artist and clever enough to spot that something is amiss. She decides to join him in helping Bao Zheng bring down Grand Preceptor Pang. And so their story begins.
