Old J is my classmate. Like Rancho in the Indian film 3 Idiots, he was brilliant, a true genius whom I deeply admired. In the movie, Rancho is a scientist. As for Old J, I think he should have been a philosopher. By a strange coincidence, after graduation he also vanished mysteriously, and stayed missing for more than twenty years! When we met again, we were both middle-aged. Our occasional conversations about his thoughts, feelings, and insights opened up an entirely new world for me. My mind followed his keen and thoughtful reflections, sometimes wandering through the vast river of history, sometimes soaring into the boundless mysteries of the universe, and sometimes resting in the heart of a flower, on a lush green leaf, or in a drop of clear water... It was truly unlike anything I had ever heard or seen, breathtaking and wonderful beyond words!
His interests are wide-ranging: Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Legalism, Christianity, and Marxism; science, education, culture, and society; marriage, love, friendship, and family ties, among many other things. His ideas are diverse but never disorganized. He has built a system of his own and become a school of thought unto himself. He is truly a genius! If you don't believe it, please read on, page by page. You are sure to be swept away by a dreamlike world and discover a dazzling array of wonders!
