After the Substitute Bride’s Maid Sacrifices Herself, the Mad Marquis Sees Red

On the eve of her wedding, Song Shishi’s twin sister runs away with a man, forcing Song Shishi to take her place as the bride and become the wife of Gu Shaojin, Marquis of Yicheng. She keeps to her place and diligently plays her part, hoping that one day she’ll regain her freedom. In the third year of their marriage, her sister can no longer endure the hardships of life outside and finally returns. Song Shishi thinks she can bow out now that her duty is done, but Gu Shaojin holds her captive and reduces her to a servant girl. Resentful of her deception, Gu Shaojin unleashes his fury and subjects her to every humiliation. Unable to bear it, Song Shishi attempts to escape several times. But the caged bird ultimately cannot flee her confinement. Her limbs are crippled, and all her family members die. With a powerful enemy from the north at the city gates, a Daoist priest summons spectral soldiers to save the kingdom and selects a human sacrifice. Song Shishi throws herself into the iron furnace. Divine soldiers descend from the heavens and slaughter the enemy army. Gu Shaojin rushes back from the front lines, but cannot even find a single bone of hers. From then on, he loses his mind.
