Wen Mu woke up in a hospital bed and, taking in his surroundings, abruptly sat upright.
He looked at the furnishings in the hospital room and closed his eyes to gather himself. Then he gazed out at the bustling traffic beyond the window, as everything familiar came flooding back to him.
Was it all just a dream? He couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Then he noticed the round jade pendant clutched in his hand and froze.
On the front was a pair of black-and-white yin-yang fish. Around the edge of the back were symbols representing the seven elements of metal, wood, water, fire, earth, wind, and lightning, with a black hole in the center. Looking closely, he saw it slowly turning.
As he stared at the familiar pendant, tears slowly trickled from the corners of his eyes. He murmured, “It wasn't a dream! It wasn't a dream! It was all real!”
“In this life, how can I save you?”
