A rural young man fails to change his fate through the college entrance exam and becomes a farmer through and through. But he refuses to submit to what fate has in store. Faced with all manner of difficulties, doubts, and grievances, he continues to challenge his destiny. Though the ending is bleak, it leaves readers shaken and with much to ponder.
