Goodbye to Brother Zhe and Min Yan

When I think about it, my youth really was a failure. Looking back on my whole life, apart from all the love and entanglements with Brother Zhe, I have nothing else to remember. I was always a well-behaved, sensible child, yet growing up brought me one hardship after another. I loved only one boy, named Zhuang Minzhe, and in the end, I lost him.

When I walk along crowded streets, I still find myself singing “Little One,” the song that seems as if it was written just for us. In the crowds, I still sometimes imagine that Brother Zhe is right behind me, arms open, waiting for me to turn around and run into his embrace as eagerly and happily as I did when I was little. Then he would say, “Let me get a good look at you, see if you’ve grown taller and heavier. Little one, when will you finally grow up and become Brother Zhe’s wife?”
