Something's Off About My Immortals

As an ordinary Chinese literature student at Nancheng University, Lin Wei just wants to keep her “spirit-attracting constitution” out of sight and maintain a normal life with part-time jobs and the peachwood beads Grandma gave her. That is, until the night in the old dormitory building, when she is rescued from the brink of death by Hu Yueqing, who claims to be a “fox immortal in training.” “Want to live? Then enter a spirit-medium pact with me and become my disciple.” The cool, handsome Fox Immortal speaks in modern slang and has a thousand-year-old Hu Clan immortal seal embroidered on his sleeve. He needs her, a “spirit-gathering constitution,” to rack up merit and qualify as a full-fledged immortal, and he also has to teach her how to draw spirit-summoning talismans and recognize evil spirits. Yet he can’t even figure out security cameras, and when he tells her to “go through the wall to investigate,” he ends up with a bruised forehead. From then on, Lin Wei’s life goes completely off the rails. She rushes to morning classes by day and follows a half-trained immortal around at night, handling campus ghost stories: a weeping soul in the art room, an obsession in an abandoned practice room, a land-bound spirit at a social media hotspot… She’s so busy her feet barely touch the ground, and she still has to help Hu Yueqing run a livestream account. After all, immortals need premium spirit incense, and she’s a broke student. But as their spirit-medium household gradually grows and they recruit immortals like Huang Shiba, Lin Wei discovers that her “spirit-gathering constitution” conceals a family secret, and that Hu Yueqing’s training assessment is about far more than earning merit. More frightening still, the feelings growing between them trigger a thousand-year-old curse hidden in their pact: when an immortal and a mortal fall in love, Heaven will punish them. As a conspiracy targeting those with a spirit-gathering constitution comes to light and the mastermind closes in, can this novice immortal and rookie disciple break the curse of fate, protect each other, and preserve the balance between the human and spirit realms? This is a tale of spirit-medium cultivation wrapped in the bustle of modern life, with laughter and tears, sweetness and heartbreak. It’s an immortal’s story hidden beneath the city’s neon lights.
