One is Gu Jiao, who has been a ghost for two hundred years. The other is Gu Jiao, whose brain isn’t quite right two hundred years later. Two souls in one body. What kind of human-and-ghost mischief will they get up to in Yongzhou? Excerpt 1: “Ancestor, what can you do?” “Make incense. Back in my day, I was the best incense maker for miles around.” “Then we can earn a living and won’t have to live off our savings. Ancestor, what kind of incense do you make? Sandalwood, nard, costus... My father left behind a shop, too. We can renovate it, reopen it, and make it a thriving business.” “Uh... I make incense for burning.” “...What kind of incense do you actually make?” “Look up. The incense you just burned for your mother.” “...” Are you sure we won’t get beaten up? “I can put on a show, I mean, exorcise ghosts. Does that count?” “...” Excerpt 2: “How much for all this incense? I’ll take the lot.” He was loaded. “Three sticks for one tael of gold.” “Why don’t you just rob people?” “Isn’t that exactly what I’m doing, now that I’ve found a sucker?” “Gu Jiao.” Excerpt 3: “Hahaha, come look at this! What kind of chicken scratch is she writing? Gu Jiao, just admit you never went to school. I’ll pay for your education.” You’re actually a pretty nice person: “Sure. I really never went to school. Can I get the money in cash, kind benefactor?” “Shut up, Daoist Gu. My son doesn’t know how to speak properly. Apologize to Daoist Gu right now! Daoist Gu, I’ll take that talisman.”
