Many people have heard of the butterfly effect. This story is about it too, though it ventures into the fantastical, beyond what science can explain.
How weak humanity was at the dawn of its existence! We were cautious at every turn, yet people still died everywhere.
So many died, and we learned and remembered more. As fewer and fewer died, we began to forget faster and faster.
Having wisdom and the ability to think may well be humanity’s weaknesses. We commit unforgivable crimes condemned by thousands, yet refuse to heed warnings and stubbornly go our own way.
And so the butterfly began to flap its wings, and nothing could be reversed.
But even in that world where demons ran wild, there were still people who stood firm.
Before disaster struck, they planned far ahead: "Better to believe it could happen than to dismiss it. The more prepared we are, the more time our children will have."
When disaster came, they charged fearlessly into danger: "Let the warrior feast on the flesh of barbarians and laugh as he drinks their blood. You bastards, Grandpa’s here!"
When faced with life and death, they smiled and urged each other on: "Let’s name the child Niansheng. The name will carry both yours and mine. Take good care of our child, and live on!"
But the earth split apart, mountains and rivers changed shape, and the entire Blue Star underwent tremendous upheaval. Humanity had no choice but to plan an escape.
Another storm of blood and violence followed, and the fleet set sail.
The survivors left on Blue Star struggled to cling to life in despair, but a new turn of events emerged.
The refugees aboard the fleet, lost and confused, fell into hibernation as they journeyed toward an unknown planet.
Humans are better than animals at thinking and using tools, but what humans are best at is forgetting.
When the fleet’s refugees reached their destination, they threw themselves into their new lives, joy at having survived shining on every face. And so they took a new name: the New Human Federation.
