A Chance Encounter Blooms into Love, and We Stumble into Each Other’s Hearts

One day, Yun Feng was walking down the street when he came across a girl kneeling on the ground, begging for money to pay for her mother’s treatment. He gave her a thousand yuan. Whether she was a scammer or not, it wouldn’t make much difference to him. He had plenty of money. Half a month later, Yun Feng went to the hospital to visit a friend’s older sister. To his surprise, he saw the girl in a hospital room, where doctors were trying to resuscitate her mother. His friend’s sister told him the girl was incredibly devoted to her mother. A week earlier, she’d married a man in his thirties to get the money for her mother’s treatment. But by the time her husband brought her mother to the hospital, it was already too late. The doctor said they’d missed the best time for treatment, and her mother probably wouldn’t survive the night. Yun Feng didn’t know what to make of it. The girl had brought her mother to the hospital a week ago, and he’d met her a month earlier when she was asking for money to treat her mother. If he’d covered the full cost then, her mother might not be in this situation today. Less than ten minutes after Yun Feng arrived at the hospital room, the doctor pronounced the girl’s mother dead. The girl collapsed unconscious, sobbing over her mother’s body. Yun Feng swore that the next time he came across someone in that situation, he would help. During summer break that year, Yun Feng was driving down the street when he met Yizhu, a young woman asking for money to pay for her younger brother’s treatment. There were too many con artists begging for money. After what had happened last time, Yun Feng wanted to help her but was afraid she might be a scammer, so he used an unconventional way to test whether she was truly in trouble. To his surprise, he ended up in a dispute with Yizhu and, in a fit of anger, burned both her feet. A month later, Yun Feng transferred schools, and Yizhu became his deskmate.
