[Magic world + zombies + ensemble cast + spatial storage + tearjerker]

A magic academy is surrounded by zombies. The mages, who wield all kinds of elemental magic, have no idea what zombies are. Mages without offensive spells are completely helpless against them.
The teachers were originally worried that students might use their magic to attack one another, so they joined several elder mages in setting up a barrier around the academy. Once inside, every mage's power would be weakened according to their level. They never expected this measure to cause so much trouble.
The zombies can evolve, too. Zombies hit by magic absorb its energy and evolve into walking corpses that hunt for targets. Whoever attacks them becomes their target.
The academy's entrances and exits are sealed. The rescuers are trapped outside and can't get in. Those inside suspect one another, brutally murder their classmates, and live in hell. In the end, the main cast are the ones who survive and fight their way out.
Then they discover that the zombies were brought from another world by an obscure, low-level mage.
The real world war has only just begun.
